Opening Doors; Unlocking Potential

2020 Comino Cultural Designer in School Programme

Last week upwards of 30 designers, cultural educators and teachers from across Greater Manchester came together in one place to launch the 2020 Comino Cultural Designer in School programme. The buzz in the room was tangible as multi-disciplinary teams began to develop ideas for projects to roll out in the New Year. Created in close partnership with Ideas Foundation this programme will be delivered in 5 schools from Bury, Rochdale, Bolton, Manchester and Wigan. In this our seventh year the Comino Foundation are pleased to award bursaries to 5 postgraduate design students from Manchester Metropolitan University to bring new digital arts practice into classrooms and cultural education settings in partnership with leading Manchester based cultural organisations. These include The Science & Industry Museum, The Whitworth Art Gallery, The National Football Museum, The People History Museum and The Chinese Centre for Contemporary Arts. Designers bring skills in digital video/photography, filmmaking, motion graphics, 3D printing, and digital surface design whilst cultural partners and schools bring themes for exploration. This year Falinge Park High School will be working with a textile-focused artist and The Manchester People’s History Museum. We look forward to seeing the work our students create alongside such professionals.
