School Noticeboard 2nd July 2016
Well done to our students who attended the Music sessions at Bury College this week. Year 10 Music learners went along to the college for a two day special workshop to learn more about the music industry and employment possibilities. For more details, contact Mr Wilcock or Ms Williams.
Many thanks to all the Year 6 learners who came along and joined us for our Year 6 Induction Day this week. We hope you had a fantastic time with us and gained a better idea of life at secondary school. Students received important information about tutor groups and uniform. If you have any further questions about this process or the September start to school, please contact Mr Rhodes. Many thanks to Mrs Rudkowskyj for her hard work in ensuring a great transition for our learners.
On 29 June, 21 of our Year 9 Separate Science students travelled to the University of Manchester Faculty of Life Sciences to take part in the ‘Science Stars’ event. Students had the opportunity to carry out ‘blood’ tests to diagnose diabetes, search for alien life, build a model brain and find out more about the organisms that live in our gut. They also attended a lecture on sports physiology, learning how athletes can use science to help them win Olympic gold medals.
Our students really enjoyed the event, and their participation and behaviour were superb. As well as doing some exciting hands-on science, the day gave them a chance to experience university life and discover more about the exciting career and study opportunities science can offer.
We are already looking forward to taking another group of Year 9 students to this fantastic event again next year!
Learners undertaking their Arts Award qualifications should now ensure that they are completing their portfolios ready for assessment on the 14th of July. If you have any further questions about the process, please contact Mr Mvula or Mr De Courcey.

We are celebrating Arts Award Week on the 2nd to the 10th of July with two major events; our Arts and Mediterranean Night where families can try out new art skills and with our ‘Take One Picture’ Showcase which celebrates Year 7 CALL learners who have interpreted a famous classical or contemporary image with their own creative interpretation. Details for both events are on our school website. Mr Mvula will also be taking a trip to London to celebrate and share our work as one of fifteen national Arts Award Good Practice Centres around the United Kingdom. Well done to everyone who has taken part in this year’s activities.
Our ‘Take One Picture’ Showcase takes place in school on Friday the 8th of July 2016 from 3.30pm until 4.30pm. The event celebrates the great work our year 7 CALL learners have been carrying out in class in their interpretation of classical and contemporary art. Admission is free and refreshments are served.
Our Arts and Mediterranean Night takes place on Wednesday 6th of July 2016 from 6.00pm until 8.00pm and will feature a range of entertainment and activities. Spanish, Greek and Italian food is included in the ticket price. Tickets are available in advance from school priced £6.00 (no concessions). Year 9 and 10 GCSE Dancers are currently performing in the European Festival of Science at the Lowry and at various venues throughout Manchester over the next few weeks as part of our ‘Stellarium’ project. The dancers have been working with national leading scientists on astronomical research to create a piece of dance which explores the nature of solar bursts from our Sun. The exciting project has combined dance with current science research to achieve national interest. Well done to all the students and staff involved in the work so far.
